Progreso is a port city on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. It is a popular stop for cruise ships, which dock at its iconic long pier. The Malecón is a promenade along the oceanfront and is lined with beaches and thatched-roof restaurants. The Puerto Progreso Lighthouse, built in 1893, is still active. The city is an access route to inland Mayan archaeological sites such as Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, and Dzibilchaltún.
