The Loneliest Cell

Written for my brother Charles Victor Thompson who lives on Texas Death Row. These are his words put to song.

[Verse]
In the loneliest cell I've ever known
Echoes whisper of sins stone on stone
Counting hours as they slip through the cracks
Memories fade but guilt never lacks

[Verse 2]
Behind these bars I'm lost in a maze
Years stack up like dust in a haze
Solitude a ghost that never leaves
Every breath a chapter nobody reads

[Chorus]
Running wild now I'm standing still
All my dreams just a bitter pill
In the shadow of the life I led
Echoes of the living haunt the dead

[Verse 3]
Once was a time chased every high
Now I sit here awaiting to die
Faces of two haunt my restless mind
No escape from the ties that bind

[Bridge]
A heart of stone in a cage of steel
Every wound is taught to never heal
Silence screams louder than my sin
The end draws near but it won't begin

[Chorus]
Running wild now I'm standing still
All my dreams just a bitter pill
In the shadow of the life I led
Echoes of the living haunt the dead
