​The opening round of the 2025 Drift Masters European Championship, originally scheduled for April 25–26 at the Autodromo di Vallelunga near Rome, Italy, has been canceled. This decision follows the passing of Pope Francis, with Italian authorities requesting the suspension of major public events during the national mourning period and the Pope’s funeral on Saturday, April 26 .​

Drift Masters President Adam Krawczak expressed condolences to the people of Italy and the global Catholic community, emphasizing the organization's respect for the gravity of the situation. He stated that, while awaiting formal confirmation from the local sporting federation, the decision was made not to proceed with the event to honor the magnitude of this moment and allow necessary arrangements to take place .​

As a result, the 2025 season will now commence with Round 2 at the Circuito del Jarama in Madrid, Spain, on May 17–18 .​

For fans who were anticipating the Italian debut, the Vallelunga Circuit remains a new addition to the Drift Masters calendar and may feature in future seasons. The venue, known for its technical layout and history of hosting the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games in 2019, was set to offer a challenging and exciting start to the season .​
