VAPERS is an American punk rock band from New York City, formed around 2016 by veterans of the punk and hardcore scenes. The band, known for their campy, theatrical, and sincere “22nd century punk music,” blends power-pop, pop-punk, and hardcore influences. Their lineup features David Walsh (aka Uncle Bernard) on vocals and guitar, Spanish Maria on vocals and guitar, Hard Metal Chris on bass, and Early Gates on drums for recordings and guitar for live performances.
Drawing from their members’ prior work in bands like Morning Glory, The Explosion, The Loved Ones, and Brogues, VAPERS delivers a sound marked by melodic hooks, aggressive energy, and futuristic themes. They released their debut EP, This Is My Body, on September 30, 2016, through Bandcamp, with Punknews.org debuting the record. The EP’s standout track, “Human Cyborg,” showcases their chaotic yet catchy style with lyrics exploring technology and existentialism.
VAPERS’ music combines the melodic punk of The Loved Ones, the ska-punk vibrancy of Morning Glory, and the raw intensity of The Explosion, creating a distinctive, self-aware aesthetic. Their performances are noted for their theatrical flair, reflecting the band’s playful yet poignant approach to punk rock. As of their last known activity in 2016, VAPERS remains a niche but celebrated act in the NYC punk underground.
