Genesis 40 and 41

Hi, I’m Sal Lopez Executive Director of Ozark Hunger Relief, I am doing this to hopefully find some sponsors (tax deductible donations) for an office in Prairie Grove, Ar. I have seen and fed many children who wander around here. I thought if I started a non-profit, the community would be happy to help. Nope! I’ve had nothing but suspicion, derision, denial, and was ripped off for everything I had, by another food pantry. They offered to help, then when I delivered everything, I had, then they told me to stay away from them, but subsequently asked me for more donations. It has been horribly depressing, but I will persevere and get this office open.
My vision is to be a community resource center, but the main goal is to feed hungry kids, whose parents are drug addicts, and/or alcoholics. I guess some are just poor. Anyway, I need help and will advertise for you, and have signs of acknowledgement for every donor, proportionate for the donation.

My friends, today we turn to Genesis 40, where we find Joseph once again in a place of trial and uncertainty—a prison cell in Egypt. Betrayed by his brothers, falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife, and now forgotten, Joseph could have easily despaired. And yet, even in this dark chapter of his life, we see the light of God’s providence shining through.

Genesis 40 recounts how Joseph interprets the dreams of Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker. The cupbearer’s dream foretells his restoration, while the baker’s dream foreshadows his execution. Joseph, guided by God, interprets these dreams with accuracy and humility. He says in verse 8, “Do not interpretations belong to God?” This moment reminds us that God is the source of all wisdom and understanding, and that even in the prison of life, His hand is at work.

But let us consider Joseph’s situation after the cupbearer is restored. In verse 23, we read, “The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.” Can you imagine the sting of that moment? Joseph had done everything right, and yet he remained in prison, waiting and wondering. My friends, how often do we feel the same way? We cry out to God, we trust Him, and yet the answers don’t come when we expect them. But let me tell you this: God’s delays are not His denials. His timing is perfect, and His plans are always for our good and His glory.

As we reflect on Genesis 40, let us hold fast to these three truths:

God is with us in the waiting: Even in the depths of the prison, God was with Joseph. In your season of waiting, remember that God has not abandoned you. He is shaping you, refining you, and preparing you for what lies ahead.

God’s plans are greater than ours: Joseph may have felt forgotten, but God had a greater plan. The delay was part of the journey that would lead to his elevation as ruler in Egypt. Trust that God’s plans for you are higher and better than anything you could imagine.

We must seek forgiveness in the Name of Jesus: Joseph’s story points us to Jesus, who endured rejection, suffering, and waiting for the joy set before Him. Through Jesus, we have access to God’s forgiveness and grace. Come to the Father today, and ask Him to accept and forgive you in the Name of Jesus. There is no greater gift than the assurance of His love and the promise of eternal life.

My friends, Genesis 40 teaches us that waiting is never wasted. God is at work in ways we cannot see, and His promises never fail. Trust Him in the waiting room of life. Surrender your plans to Him, and in the Name of Jesus, receive His grace and forgiveness. always for our good and His glory.

As we close, I urge you to reflect on this truth: God’s Word is unerring, His love is unchanging, and His timing is perfect. Whatever you are facing today, place your trust in Him, and He will lead you through. These first 80 years are just a test, to see if you of your own free will, will Worship God out of gratitude, and accept Jesus as your savior. So, pass this first test, the next one in the Millennial Reign will be much easier. Smile and I'll see you there!
