Episode 168 - MLK: COINTELPRO Gets Its Man (Part IV)

On the civil side, Dr. William Pepper found enough evidence that in 1999, a Memphis jury cleared James Earl Ray in 59 minutes, charging "officers of the US Government, the state of Tennessee, and the city of Memphis" with the crime. On the criminal side, Judge Joe Brown developed enough ballistics evidence to clear James Earl Ray as well.

The former could be combated with threats to his publisher and/or from his publisher - losing a civil lawsuit can be explained away a thousand different ways. But the latter had to be removed from the case altogether, foreclosing on a victory in the appeals' process by James Earl Ray - losing a criminal appeals' case would not only free the patsy, it would implicate the government conspirators themselves.

No entity has more cards to play in a conspiracy than the government. In addition to the crime itself, the government controls ALL of the leverage instruments to cover-up, including the setting up of sacrificial lambs to take the fall for its crimes. This is why the government fights so hard to protect its "methods & sources" through the classification of documents.
