VibeFoutndy - Miggly Figgly | Redneck Rock
What if the first supermarket wasn’t built by suits in shiny towers, but by a pissed-off redneck tired of standing in line?
“Miggly Figgly” is a gritty redneck rock tribute to Clarence Saunders – the forgotten southern inventor who revolutionized shopping by creating the world’s first self-service grocery store in 1916. He didn’t want luxury. He didn’t want power. He wanted freedom to shop without begging a clerk for beans.
This song ain’t just about bacon and boots – it’s about how a simple, genius idea got swallowed by corporate greed, stripped of its roots, and turned into the sterile hell we call retail today. We’re bringing Clarence back – the outlaw of aisle 9 – with stompin’ riffs, dirty guitars, and the voice of the South.
This one’s for the small-town dreamers, the DIY rebels, and every damn redneck who ever said: “I’ll get it my damn self.”
Lyrics:
He stood in line, hot breath on his neck,
Sweatin’ through flannel, holdin’ his check.
“Damn this wait, just for a can o’ peas,”
“Hand me a cart, I’ll shop with ease.”
Miggly Figgly, freedom store,
No suit, no tie, just a creaky floor.
He built a kingdom, aisle by aisle,
Now they scan yo’ soul with a plastic smile.
They mocked the hog on his plywood sign,
But Granny filled her cart just fine.
It wasn’t fancy, but it fed the land,
Then came the suits with a stealin’ hand.
Wall Street crawled in with silver teeth,
Tried to gut him out from underneath.
Took his grit and sold it clean,
Now it smells like bleach and kerosene.
Miggly Figgly, freedom store,
No golden cart, no marble floor.
He let us grab, he let us choose,
Before scanners came to track our booze.
Now they lock the razors and fake the steaks,
While Clarence worked with what it takes.
No coupons, no codes, just boots and jeans,
And rows o’ meat and pickled beans.
He didn’t build no towered den,
He built a shack to serve real men.
They took his cart, slapped on their brand,
And turned his dream to checkout land.
Miggly Figgly, rebel mart,
With greasy dreams and a loyal heart.
He ain’t in books, he ain’t on signs,
But every aisle still echoes his lines.
So next time you pushin’ that steel-wheeled beast,
Think of the man who fed the least.
Clarence rode off, but the truth remains:
Real kings stock beans, not champagne.
