When Did the Church Go Wrong? At the Start, We Were All Catholics

The Catholic and Eastern Orthodox can ask a fair question. Since even Protestant churches got so much theology and practice from the Roman Catholic church, when did the church go wrong? If it wasn't until the 16tth century, then why aren't Protestant beliefs and practices more Roman Catholic? If It was always wrong, then where was the church during all those centuries and why does it have so much theology and practice from Rome? And if you say "they were always wrong and my church has it right in the last 200 years" then where was the church all the prior centuries?
