US Navy IKE-ET 5" shell high speed test

US Navy 5-inch IKE-ET (Improved Kinetic Energy - Electronic Time) shell loaded with 3/8" tungsten spheres expelled at over 3000 feet per second during trials

The shell was designed as an improvement over the Mk 182 KE-ET shell as a means of dealing with small boats and swarm tactics, expelling the subprojectiles through the nose rather than the base, thereby giving them greater velocity and therefore kinetic energy relative to the shell.
