The Karen Read Trial 2.0- LIVEWATCH WITH ATTORNEYS (Day 5: Afternoon)

SO FAR: This morning, Digital Forensic Analyst, Ian Whiffin testified that 1. Jen McCabe's phone records indicating that she Google searched "Hos long to die in cold" at 2:29 AM would result from her opening the browser tab at 2:29 to look up a different site and then reusing that same at around 6:20 AM to do the Google search because it only shows last site/time tab opened; and 2. John O'keefe's phone data Waze (Location)+ Health Data + (Battery warmth) + Doppler (Phone Usage vs. pocket state) lead him to reach the conclusion that the victim got out of Karen Read's car in front of 34 Fairview and never made it into Brian Albert's house before dying on the front lawn.

Defense barely began cross when we broke for lunch and jury was sent home for the day.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Critical Voir dire ("Mini-hearing") regarding Defense's ability to use ARCCA testimony in trial. ARCCA is a company that provides expert accident reconstruction. They are expected to testify that Karen Read did NOT hit O'keefe with her car. Judge Cannone is unsure about admitting their testimony. This voir dire is designed to help her reach that decision.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT:
During a long and widely watched trial last year, Karen Read was prosecuted for murder in the 2022 death of her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe. Allegedly a victim of hitting him with her vehicle. Read is charged with Intentional Murder, Vehicular Manslaughter (Accidental) and Leaving the scene of a "hit and run."

The trial, which included allegations of police misconduct and of a wide-ranging conspiracy among law enforcement officers to frame Read in the killing, ended in a hung jury.

BACKGROUND:
O’Keefe, 46, had been a police officer for 16 years. He was found unresponsive on a snowy January morning outside the suburban home of Brian Albert, a now-retired Boston police sergeant.

O’Keefe was pronounced dead shortly after, and the medical examiner attributed the cause to blunt force trauma to the head and hypothermia. Read, then an equity analyst who had been dating O’Keefe for two years, was arrested in connection with his death days later.
