Welcome back to SGT Rock’s Headbangers Ball, everyone. The month of May is Military Appreciation Month. All month, our shows celebrate our warfighters and what they do.
As Veterans ourselves, this month is exceptionally special to us.

…On with the show…

How goes it Hard Rockers, Headbangers and the Hardcore. SGT Rock here, your host for SGT Rock’s Headbangers Ball! As we continue with Military Appreciation Month. If you’re a Boomer, or GenX, you’ll recognize the title. Before the days of the internet, we had these things called record stores. Chain stores, both national and regional, Mom and Pops stores, magazines, and the demo trading scene, just to name a few. And then, MTV hit the airwaves and captivated a generation that had to raise itself. GenX!

I’m sure you’ve heard tons of the tropes, feral, tribal, Lord of the Flies type kids, latchkey, at 10 p.m. the “Do you know where your children are?” campaign to remind our parents we existed. GREAT FUCKIN TIMES, man! Where were we? Yep! Out and about. Break curfew, get your ass beat. Mouth off to your parents, get your ass beat. Mention a genre you liked, but your friends didn’t? Yep. Get your ass beat.

During the 80s and 90s, if you’re a GenX kid, the 70s opened us to rock and roll, punk, and a growing hardcore scene. The 80’s introduced us to metal and hardcore really took off the 90’s introduced us to ugh…Grunge < I still hate that fuckin term for the rock and roll those great bands from the Pacific MidWest, when in reality, there were “Grunge” bands all over the country, yet I digress.

Then a new millennia and new genres that broke away from Hardcore and Metal, and the New England Hardcore Scene had standouts that became a new means of getting your music played, videos played and that was social media.

Even with MTV and VH1 getting away from playing our music, a new medium…took their place and it has now become the juggernaut that it is today…Social Media. Yet, before all that. You could buy compilations albums, cassette tapes, and CDs from distributors like Time Life and K-Tel just to mention a couple. The top selling compilation CDs in our time of growing up was Metal Mania.

I can’t remember how many volumes came out, but we bought as many as possible. We bought two. Keep one, play one. They might be worth something someday. Damn, I think back to those day and just remember how great life was, man. Feral, tribal, Lord of the fuckin Flies, man. Then I had to go on and start adulting!

And on that note, headbangers, big announcements we’ve got two awesome rock blocks. One, a quad block of new metal tunes by GenX favorites and a Fan’s Poll of 5 Underrated Nü-Metal Bands that should have gotten more fanfare than they did.

Who are we playing on today’s show? You’ll have to tune in to find out. We didn’t leave you hangin, Headbangers! There’s a little something for everyone from Boomers, GenX, GenZ, and GenA! I hope you dig this show as it was made with you in mind. The Metal and Rock Music fan.
