Near the Nilfgaardian war camp, Geralt encountered a noblewoman from distant Nazair, searching desperately for her missing son a soldier who had mysteriously stopped sending letters home. Hired to uncover the truth, Geralt’s investigation revealed a tragic fate: the young man had deserted with other disillusioned soldiers, only to be caught and hanged without mercy. Delivering the heartbreaking news to the grieving mother, Geralt was once again reminded that war spares no innocence, and its victims wear many faces.

Elsewhere, rumors of disappearing patrols in the swamps of Velen brought another grim task. Following a trail of broken branches and muddied footprints, Geralt discovered the soldiers had stumbled into the hunting grounds of a ferocious wyvern and paid for their mistake with their lives.

Yet the truth ran darker still. These Nilfgaardian troops had not been on a routine patrol they had ventured into the woods to execute Redanian prisoners of war and bury their bodies in secret. Their corpses had simply attracted a beast who could smell death even through the earth.

When confronted, the Nilfgaardian quartermaster brushed off Geralt’s accusations with chilling indifference. Disgusted but pragmatic, Geralt took his payment knowing that sometimes, survival demands silence more than outrage.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (Polish: Wiedźmin 2: Zabójcy Królów) is a 2011 action role-playing game developed by CD Projekt Red, based on Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels. As a sequel to the 2007 game The Witcher, it continues the saga of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a Witcher.
