This chapter is a continuation of the laws written in chapter 13. This chapter can be divided up into two parts. Verses 1-32 describe the purification rites of someone who had previously been declared infected with tsara'ath . Verses 32-53 describe mud covered or plastered building stones that are infected with tsara'ath .

Tzara'ath is a Biblical affliction, most commonly known and mistranslated as leprosy. Tzara'ath is a skin disease that can take many different forms, bad cases can manifest itself on one’s clothing, belongings, and house, in addition to the skin. According to the rabbis, tzara'ath is caused by sin. This makes it a disease like no others, part medical condition, part spiritual pathology.
