La Regenta: Chapter One (TV Series 1995 - MULTISUB)
La regenta (transl. The regent's wife) is a 1995 Spanish prime-time television miniseries based on the novel of the same name by Leopoldo Alas.
Produced by Televisión Española, it was directed and written by Fernando Méndez-Leite and starred by Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Héctor Alterio, Juan Luis Galiardo and Carmelo Gómez. Its three episodes were broadcast on La Primera of Televisión Española on 17–19 January 1995.
The story is set in Vetusta, a fictional provincial capital in northern Spain, where Ana Ozores marries the former prime judge of the city, Víctor Quintanar, a kind but fussy man much older than her. Feeling sentimentally abandoned, she lets herself be courted by the local casanova, Álvaro Mesía. To complete the circle, her confessor and canon in the cathedral of Vetusta, Don Fermín de Pas, also falls in love with her and becomes Mesía's unmentionable rival.
filming took place in Madrid and Oviedo. María Luisa Ponte, who had already played the role of Petronila Rianzares in the 1975 film version directed by Gonzalo Suárez, reprised her role in the miniseries. Audio in Spanish with subtitles in English, Italian, French and German (click on CC for subtitles).

Episode 1: In Vetusta, an imaginary northern provincial city, lives Ana Ozores, a beautiful woman known by the nickname "La Regenta" (The Regent) for being married to Don Víctor Quintanar, former regent of the court, a man older than his wife and a great fan of hunting, a hobby he shares with his friend Tomás Crespo, nicknamed "Frígilis." La Regenta seeks meaning in religion to her monotonous and boring life. The young Magistrate of the cathedral, Don Fermín de Pas, a handsome and ambitious man, agrees to be Ana's spiritual director, recommending a long general confession. At the end of it, Don Fermín finds himself attracted to Ana. Doña Paula, the Magistrate's mother, notices a change in her son's behavior and warns him of the risk that a love affair could pose to his advancement in the ecclesiastical career. Ana, for her part, finds herself attracted to another man, Don Álvaro de Mesía, the "Don Juan" of Vetusta.
