Gardener’s Morning Routine Shattered by Savage Hate Crime Attack in Inglewood Neighborhood

On April 15, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Javier Ibarra, a 41-year-old gardener from Inglewood, California, was brutally assaulted outside his home in a suspected hate crime. The attack occurred in the 200 block of West Hyde Park Boulevard as Ibarra was opening the front gate to access his work truck, a routine he had followed for years. Surveillance footage captured a masked man, dressed in a green hooded sweatshirt, green sweatpants, black gloves, and white and green Nike shoes, sprinting toward Ibarra from behind. The assailant, described as a man in his 30s or 40s, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, shouted racial slurs, including “F*** you Mexican, I hate you,” before repeatedly punching Ibarra in the head and face.

Ibarra, caught off guard, tried to defend himself but was thrown to the ground as the attacker continued the assault, kicking and attempting to stab him with a knife. The gardener sustained severe injuries, including facial fractures and an eye laceration, and his house keys were stolen. The attack only stopped when Ibarra screamed for his wife, who emerged from their home, prompting the suspect to flee west on Hyde Park Boulevard, possibly in a silver, blue, or green 2008-2012 Chevy Malibu with tinted rear windows.

Ibarra, fearing for his life during the ordeal, later recounted the trauma, noting blood covering his face and a swollen, closed eye. The incident left his family, including his four-year-old child, terrified. Inglewood police are investigating the assault as a hate crime and have found no similar incidents in the area but are checking neighboring cities.
