We DO NOT Comply

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1-2

The world and the powers that be will always demand compliance. Whatever they want you to do, they will expect you to do it, or they will set themselves against you. Because if they cannot control you, to them, you are the enemy. And they cannot have any enemies. If they perceive that you are an enemy, they will take you out or they will make a public example of you.

We have perhaps all experienced this, at some point or another — in the playground, at school, at work, or, sometimes, sadly, even at home. Call it peer pressure, call it coercion, call it tyranny, whatever you like . . . it’s all the same spirit at its core. The narcissists that think they call all the shots must be idolized, worshipped and obeyed, or they will make your life miserable. Compliance is demanded and nothing else is acceptable.

I am here to tell you this morning that our first allegiance must always be to our Lord Jesus Christ! He is the lover of our souls, He is our Saviour and Redeemer, and we owe nobody and no institution like we owe Jesus.
