Manteca Officers Open Fire, Killing 69-Year-Old Suspect at In-N-Out After Vehicle Collision Incident

On April 30, 2025, at approximately 5:05 PM, Manteca Police Department officers fatally shot 69-year-old Charles Mcgonegal II in the parking lot of an In-N-Out Burger at 1490 E. Yosemite Ave, Manteca, California. The incident began when police responded to reports of a disturbance involving Mcgonegal, who was driving a white van in the restaurant’s drive-thru line. According to authorities, Mcgonegal rammed a police vehicle upon officers’ arrival. Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation for about 20 minutes, he then struck at least two more patrol cars, prompting five officers to open fire. Mcgonegal was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner on May 1, 2025.
