Numbers 20 – Were Moses and Aaron supposed to speak to the rock or hit the rock? 2023

Num 20:7
and the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

Num 20:8
"Take the rod; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it may yield its water. You shall thus bring forth water for them out of the rock and let the congregation and their beasts drink."

They had another water crisis. Moses was told to take his rod, which is a symbol of Elohim's power.

Ex. 7:20 So Moses and Aaron did even as the LORD had commanded. And he lifted up the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.

Ex 14:16 “And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.

Ex 17:9 So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us, and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will station myself on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”

Elohim instructed Moses and Aaron (the verb is plural, therefore they both apparently were to do this) to speak to the rock.
