Amid rising tensions with India, authorities in Pakistan-administered Kashmir have urged residents near the Line of Control to stockpile food and essentials for two months, following deadly cross-border violence.

The move comes after India blamed Pakistan for a shooting in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 civilians, a charge Islamabad denies.

Both nuclear-armed countries have exchanged gunfire for eight nights and taken retaliatory diplomatic actions, France 24 has reported.

Fears of military escalation have led to school closures and emergency preparations in the region.
