China’s trade war isolation deepens

Beijing is feeling the heat — and the isolation — in the trade war. During Xi Jinping’s recent trip to Southeast Asia, neighbors welcomed him with red carpets — but kept him at arm’s length. From traditional allies like Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Cambodia, to skeptical powers like South Korea and India, the message was clear: They’re backing away.

Once-obedient Southeast Asian countries are now showing open signs of rebellion. Even Ukraine and Russia are taking swings at Beijing — and old alliances are showing cracks. Meanwhile, a growing international coalition is moving to crack down on China’s “origin laundering” tactics.
The tide is turning — and Beijing is finding itself more isolated on the global stage.
