A dramatic new shift for the series to first person view in a photorealistic style powered by Capcom’s new RE Engine, Resident Evil 7 delivers an unprecedented level of immersion that brings the thrilling horror up close and personal.

Set in modern day rural America and taking place after the dramatic events of Resident Evil® 6, players experience the terror directly from the first person perspective. Resident Evil 7 embodies the series’ signature gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined “survival horror” some twenty years ago; meanwhile, a complete refresh of gameplay systems simultaneously propels the survival horror experience to the next level.

Intro:
The game begins with Ethan Winters receiving a strange video message from his missing wife, Mia, who disappeared three years earlier. The message leads Ethan to a derelict plantation in Dulvey, Louisiana. After driving deep into the woods, Ethan finds an abandoned car and a dilapidated guest house. As he searches the eerie property, he discovers signs of a documentary crew who also went missing. Ethan eventually locates Mia locked in the basement, but she behaves erratically and violently. After a terrifying encounter where Mia attacks him with a knife and chainsaw, Ethan is forced to fight back, seemingly killing her. A mysterious man named Jack Baker then knocks Ethan out, dragging him deeper into the nightmare.

Guest House:
Ethan awakens to find himself alone again in the guest house. The power is erratic, the house is decaying, and supernatural events begin to unfold. After further exploration, Mia reappears in a possessed, feral state and repeatedly attacks Ethan. The game introduces core mechanics here, such as combat, healing, and environmental puzzles. Ethan eventually finds a handgun and must defend himself in a brutal confrontation with Mia. After seemingly defeating her, a phone call from a woman named Zoe urges him to escape. However, Jack Baker suddenly appears, knocks him out again, and the scene transitions to the main house.

Main House:
Ethan wakes up tied to a chair at a grotesque dinner table with the Baker family: Jack, Marguerite, Lucas, and the silent old woman in a wheelchair. The family is clearly insane and infected with some kind of biological agent. After a disturbing cutscene, Ethan breaks free and begins exploring the main house. This section opens up the full survival horror gameplay loop: item scavenging, inventory management, puzzle-solving, and enemy avoidance or combat. Ethan encounters "Molded" creatures in the basement and must collect dog-head emblems to unlock the door to the yard. He also has several tense encounters with Jack, who is nearly unkillable and stalks Ethan through parts of the house. A major highlight is a boss fight in the garage, where Jack shows extreme regenerative abilities. Clues around the house begin to hint at experiments, a company called "Eveline," and the Baker family’s descent into madness.
