GOLF LEGEND BOBBY JONES

Bobby Jones, born Robert Tyre Jones Jr. on March 17, 1902, in Atlanta, Georgia, was an American amateur golfer and one of the sport’s greatest legends. Despite never turning professional, Jones dominated golf in the 1920s, winning 13 major championships, including four U.S. Opens and three British Opens. In 1930, he achieved the Grand Slam, winning the U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, British Open, and British Amateur in a single year, a feat unmatched at the time. Known for his smooth swing and sportsmanship, Jones co-founded Augusta National Golf Club and created the Masters Tournament, first held in 1934. He retired from competitive golf at 28, later practicing law. Jones battled syringomyelia, a spinal disorder, in his later years, passing away on December 18, 1971. His legacy endures through the Masters and his contributions to golf’s global prestige.
