Do you want to separate the Tariff Fact from Fiction?
Have you heard A story, rather than THE story?
I recently had a conversation with a client who’d been told by a Contractor that construction prices were immediately going up 25% due to tariffs.
That is simply not true

Here’s how I see it from the research I’ve done:

1. Last fall our suppliers’ notified contractors of Spring ’25 price increases. They are here now and are not a surprise.

2. There’s a 90-day tariff pause while negotiations move forward. No price impact.

3. We won’t see tariff-related impacts until late Q3, and then only if deals are not struck.

4. The impact will be limited. Only imported raw materials would be impacted. The normally represent less than 15% of the finished product cost. The net effect, if there is any, will be 1 to 2% of finished construction cost.

5. If there is a deal struck, then there will be no price impact.

The foregoing is my opinion.
What’s the moral of this story?
If you hear from a contractor about severe price increase today, find yourself another contractor.
A professional contractor would not behave in this manner.
