A friend of mine purchased an MG-42 BFONG or blank-firing only non-gun for World War 2 re-enacting and he heard an interesting tip from another re-enactor that a good way to clean the internals was to use Barbasol shaving cream first to let it pull out all the carbon and fouling, followed by pouring boiling water on it to clean out the shaving cream.

We try this tip out to mixed results.
