ICELAND ERUPTION IMO Report 06.05.25

Deformation data (GPS) show clear signs of continued land uplift in Svartsengi, but its rate has slowed in recent weeks. Scientists have estimated when the likelihood of a new magma flow or eruption will increase. This estimate assumes that the same amount of magma will need to accumulate under Svartsengi as in previous events at the Sundhnúk crater series. Assuming that the rate of land uplift measured in recent weeks remains unchanged, it can be assumed that the likelihood of a new magma flow or eruption will begin to increase as autumn approaches. If the rate of land uplift and thus magma accumulation under Svartsengi changes, this will affect this estimate.
