"Marston comes across an elderly man named Billy West, picking flowers on the side of the road. The man wants to give his wife, Annabel, a bouquet for their Golden wedding anniversary. He asks for Marston's help in gathering the flowers."
"Marston notices a campsite out on the trail and decides to ask the occupant for a short rest from his travels. He meets a man named Andrew McAllister, who welcomes Marston to his camp. After a small conversation, McAllister tells Marston about how he is searching for a rich source of water for drilling."

"At Brittlebrush Trawl, Irish helps John get across the river to Mexico. On the way, they get attacked by quite a few of Irish's so-called friends."
"John Marston walks into Chuparosa, a dusty & quiet town, fresh off the ferry and a new arrival to Mexico. He is greeted in a rather unpleasant way by a group of banditos and they demand a toll. They continue to terrorize John but he is forced to gun them down and leaves them to rot in the sun in the middle of the town after one steals his hat and another tries to make him take off his boots. However, an old man witnessed all of this and mocks John's gun skills. He is an American too and offers to show John some techniques. The pair bond as they practice shooting. The old man is revealed to be Landon Ricketts, a retired and legendary gunslinger who was supposedly the fastest shot in the Old West. He gives John a lay of the land, talking about the local government and the smell of a revolution coming."

"Marston approaches Landon Ricketts in the town of Chuparosa, and joins his game of poker with some locals, including Andreas Müller."

"John Marston approaches the residence of the governor only to be stopped by Vincente de Santa, a captain in the Mexican Army. He intimidates John by holding him at gunpoint but soon reveals that it's all a practical joke and invites Marston in for a drink and some food."
"John Marston joins Landon Ricketts for a drink at the local bar in Chuparosa, and asks for more information on Javier Escuella. Ricketts says he doesn't have any information and proceeds to ask why Marston wants Javier so bad. The two exchange stories about their life, Marston explaining why he left his gang. The two are interrupted as Luisa comes running in, saying that innocent people, writers and government officials are sentenced to death without trial, by none other than Colonel Allende."

Luisa then talks Marston into take her sister, Miranda, to the docks where she'll be shipped off to work for a man in Yucatán."
"In exchange for aid in locating Javier Escuella, Marston is sent to pillage and destroy the town of Tesoro Azul that is suspected of containing rebels."

"Nastas has set up a meeting with some of Dutch's men, for what MacDougal claims will be "a meeting of the minds: Indians and whites, academics and criminals coming together to find a common understanding!" Marston will accompany the Professor and Nastas to what turns out to be a set-up."
"When John meets with the Professor Harold MacDougal, he finds MacDougal nervous and packing his bags for his return to Yale. MacDougal has had one too many brushes with death for his liking and decides he is not cut out to study "the savages".
