He meets a man named Andrew McAllister, who welcomes Marston to his camp. After a small conversation, McAllister tells Marston about how he is searching for a rich source of water for drilling." "Outside Coot's Chapel, Marston meets an old woman named Alma Horlick whose soon-to-be husband, Peter Turner, has disappeared on her wedding day, which apparently seems to be the same day Marston is talking to Ms. Horlick, according to her."

"John stops by Marshal Johnson's office to speak to him. Before their conversation goes anywhere, Deputy Eli enters the office. Eli says that cattle rustlers have been spotted in Pike's Basin, just northeast of Armadillo." "John finds Nigel West Dickens wounded in the desert near his stagecoach." "Leigh Johnson asks John Marston to help in silencing a group of outlaws who have been terrorizing a town."

"John Marston and his group, consisting of Marshal Leigh Johnson, Deputies Eli and Jonah, Nigel West Dickens, Irish, Seth Briars and an unnamed deputy break into Fort Mercer, and try to find and capture Bill Williamson."

"At Brittlebrush Trawl, Irish helps John get across the river to Mexico. On the way, they get attacked by quite a few of Irish's so-called friends." "John Marston walks into Chuparosa, a dusty & quiet town, fresh off the ferry and a new arrival to Mexico. He is greeted in a rather unpleasant way by a group of banditos and they demand a toll. They continue to terrorize John but he is forced to gun them down and leaves them to rot in the sun in the middle of the town after one steals his hat and another tries to make him take off his boots. However, an old man witnessed all of this and mocks John's gun skills. He is an American too and offers to show John some techniques. The pair bond as they practice shooting. The old man is revealed to be Landon Ricketts, a retired and legendary gunslinger who was supposedly the fastest shot in the Old West. He gives John a lay of the land, talking about the local government and the smell of a revolution coming."

"Landon tells John that Emilio Fortuna knows of an Escuella, but is not sure if it is Javier Escuella. After a brief conversation, they find that Emilio's sister, Luisa Fortuna, is being sought by Colonel Agustin Allende, during which Landon and John get into a heated argument about the paths each other have taken." "Marston approaches Landon Ricketts in the town of Chuparosa, and joins his game of poker with some locals, including Andreas Müller."

"John Marston approaches the residence of the governor only to be stopped by Vincente de Santa, a captain in the Mexican Army. He intimidates John by holding him at gunpoint but soon reveals that it's all a practical joke and invites Marston in for a drink and some food." "John Marston joins Landon Ricketts for a drink at the local bar in Chuparosa, and asks for more information on Javier Escuella. Ricketts says he doesn't have any information and proceeds to ask why Marston wants Javier so bad. The two exchange stories about their life, Marston explaining why he left his gang. The two are interrupted as Luisa comes running in, saying that innocent people, writers and government officials are sentenced to death without trial, by none other than Colonel Allende."

"John Marston arrives to see Luisa Fortuna's sister comforting their mother in front of their house. Marston learns that the family expects a revolution in the near future, led by Abraham Reyes. The family is going to hide out in the hills, except for her sister, who will have to flee because of the way women are treated. Luisa herself has decided to stay. Luisa then talks Marston into take her sister, Miranda, to the docks where she'll be shipped off to work for a man in Yucatán." "In exchange for aid in locating Javier Escuella, Marston is sent to pillage and destroy the town of Tesoro Azul that is suspected of containing rebels."

"John Marston approaches Colonel Allende's villa, where he is met by Captain De Santa. He's told that they've been betrayed and that Marston needs to come with him at once." "Luisa Fortuna is distraught because Abraham Reyes, the leader of the rebels and her lover, has been captured and sentenced to execution by the Mexican Army. Luisa begs Marston to help rescue Reyes and save the rebellion."

"Uncle yells for John from outside. John knows what's coming, so he immediately tells Jack to run into the house and lock all the doors and windows, and not to come out "no matter what". "A man, with a striking resemblance to John, looks down at the burial site, putting Marston's hat on and revealing himself to be the nineteen-year-old Jack Marston on the hunt and ready to track down Edger Ross."

"Marston finds D.S. MacKenna in a tent in Plainview with his camera and a hogtied zombie. MacKenna tells John about his dream of making a movie about the zombies and asks John to capture a Retcher for his film." "Inside Fort Mercer, Marston encounters the American Army Captain putting up a poster. Thinking that the captain has been given the work of underlings, Marston jokes with him about it. The captain rounds on John, tersely pointing out that the posters are of people who are missing throughout the frontier and need to be found before they meet a grisly fate. Seeing that it is not a laughing matter, John decides to help rescue the missing person."
