The Confederation Bridge is a box girder bridge carrying the Trans-Canada Highway across the Abegweit Passage of the Northumberland Strait. It connects Prince Edward Island to the mainland over the Northumberland Strait in the southern part of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The bridge is 12.9 kilometers or 8 miles long, making it the longest bridge in the world over ice-covered waters. It takes approximately 10 minutes to cross
