India fires missiles across border with Pakistan as Kashmir tensions soar

India fired missiles into Pakistani-controlled territory in several locations early Wednesday morning local time, killing at least eight people.

India said it targeted infrastructure used by militants, while Pakistan’s president has said his country “has every right to respond forcefully to this act of war imposed by India” and that retaliatory strikes are being planned.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have soared since last month’s militant attack on tourists in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir. India has blamed Pakistan for backing the assault, which Pakistan has denied.
