#OperationSindoor was launched by India on May 7, 2025, as a large-scale military response to the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22, which killed 28 civilians—mostly Hindu pilgrims and tourists. India blamed the attack on Pakistan-based terror groups, particularly Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and swiftly initiated a high-precision air and drone strike campaign targeting militant hideouts, ammunition dumps, and launchpads located in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and deep inside Pakistani territory including Bahawalpur. Both countries have suffered civilian casualties, escalating fears of further conflict. Pakistan has also raised the specter of nuclear escalation, while India has reiterated that its actions are aimed solely at eliminating terrorism. With the international community urging both nations to de-escalate, Operation Sindoor marks a major turning point in India’s counter-terrorism policy and highlights the rising tensions in South Asia.
