The new Pope Leo XIV

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of the United States has been elected as the new leader of the world's 1.4 billion Catholics. He will be known as Pope Leo XIV. Robert Francis is the first cardinal to be elected pope from the United States.

Robert Francis (69) was elected as the new pope on Thursday in the second day of voting at the Vatican. 133 cardinals gathered at the Vatican from 70 countries around the world took part in the vote.
