Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply following a terrorist attack in Kashmir that killed 26 people. On May 8–9, Pakistan launched multiple drone and missile attacks targeting Indian military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur. The Indian Army said the threats were “swiftly neutralised” without casualties or material damage and responded to multiple ceasefire violations along the Line of Control. Witnesses in Jammu reported hours of explosions and sirens.

As the conflict intensifies, the United States has chosen not to intervene. Vice President JD Vance stated the situation is “none of our business,” though he acknowledged the risk of a nuclear conflict. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, however, has urged both nations to de-escalate and engage in direct dialogue. The US also reaffirmed its support for India in combating terrorism. India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar welcomed US support, affirming a firm yet measured response to cross-border aggression.
