Nearly 60 felony cases are being dropped in Hanceville, Alabama, due to widespread corruption in the local police department, where officers, including the chief, were indicted for mishandling or removing evidence.

A grand jury recommended the department be abolished after an audit revealed missing or undocumented firearms, drugs, and cash.

Most affected cases were drug-related, CBS News has reported.

The town has since disbanded the department and plans to rebuild it.
