However, in 2018, a LinkedIn profile of Shawn Pitman, a lead designer at Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, listed Ridge Racer 8 as a project he was working on, suggesting the possibility of the game being developed exclusively for the Switch .

Despite these early indications, subsequent reports have cast doubt on the game's development. In December 2019, a former Bandai Namco Singapore Studios employee revealed that the project had been canceled, citing it as one of two Unreal Engine 4-based titles that were never released .

Adding to the intrigue, in April 2025, previously unseen footage of a Ridge Racer game purportedly developed for the Nintendo Switch surfaced online. This footage, dating back to 2017, showcases elements such as the game's front end and race replays, indicating that Bandai Namco had indeed explored reviving the franchise for the Switch .

In the meantime, fans of the series can enjoy Ridge Racer 64, which was added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack in February 2025. This classic entry offers fast-paced racing across various environments and supports multiplayer modes, providing a nostalgic experience for players .
