US Patent 5159703, titled "Silent Subliminal Presentation System," describes a system that uses non-aural carriers in the very low or very high audio frequency range or the adjacent ultrasonic frequency spectrum to transmit subliminal messages. These carriers are amplitude or frequency modulated with the desired intelligence and are propagated acoustically or vibrationally, typically through loudspeakers, earphones, or piezoelectric transducers.

The modulated carriers can be transmitted directly in real time or recorded and stored on mechanical, magnetic, or optical media for delayed or repeated transmission.

This patent, filed on December 28, 1989, and granted on October 27, 1992, aims to transmit subliminal messages without the need for an audible foreground sound, addressing limitations of existing techniques that require masking sounds to hide the subliminal messages.
