A Mother Called By God

I. A mother called by God submits completely to God's will.
II. Luke 1:34-38 (NIV)“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel,“since I am a virgin?”35The angel answered,“The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37For no word from God will ever fail.” 38“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered.“May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.”
III. “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered.“May your word to me be fulfilled.”
II. A mother called by God does not have to be perfect.
John 2:1-5“1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’mother was there, 2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3When the wine was gone, Jesus’mother said to him,“They have no more wine.”4“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied.“My hour has not yet come.” 5His mother said to the servants,“Do whatever he tells you.”
Matthew 12:46-5046While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47Someone told him,“Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”48He replied to him,“Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49Pointing to his disciples, he said,“Here are my mother and my brothers. 50For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
III. A mother called by God never relinquishes the title
John 19:25“25Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.”
