The Founder of Amazon – Jeff Bezos
Learn English Through Story
Chapter 1: A Boy Who Loved Space
Jeff Bezos was born in 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. As a child, he loved space, science, and inventions. He would take apart things in the house—just to see how they worked.
His grandfather had a farm in Texas, where Jeff learned how to fix machines and solve problems. This helped him become a creative thinker.
He once told his teachers he wanted to build space hotels and colonies in space when he grew up.
Chapter 2: A Great Education
Jeff was very smart. He studied at Princeton University, one of the best universities in the U.S. There, he studied computer science and electrical engineering.
After graduation, Jeff worked on Wall Street. He had a good job and made good money. But deep inside, he had a big idea.
Chapter 3: The Idea of Amazon
In 1994, Jeff read that the internet was growing fast—2,300% per year! He saw a chance to start an online business.
He made a list of possible products. He chose books because they were easy to store, ship, and sell online.
Jeff quit his job, drove across the country, and started Amazon from his garage in Seattle.
He told investors: “It’s always Day One for Amazon.” That meant the company must always think like a startup.
Chapter 4: From Books to Everything
Amazon started by selling books online. But Jeff wanted more. He added music, movies, electronics, clothes, and groceries. Amazon became the “everything store.”
Jeff also invented the Kindle, a digital reading device. And he created Amazon Prime, which offers fast shipping and more.
By 2015, Amazon became one of the most valuable companies in the world.
Chapter 5: Blue Origin and Space Dreams
Even as Amazon grew, Jeff never forgot his love for space.
In 2000, he started a company called Blue Origin. Its goal is to make space travel possible for everyone.
In 2021, Jeff went to space in one of his own rockets. It was a dream come true.
Chapter 6: Life Today
Jeff stepped down as CEO of Amazon in 2021 but is still active in the company. He focuses on Blue Origin, philanthropy, and other business ideas.
He is one of the richest people on Earth, but he says,
“The most important decisions are made with the heart, not the head.”
