Welcome new and returning Faith Seekers to Your Faith With Nan where we dive into Scripture and apply it to real life. Today’s passage is one of the most powerful and challenging moments in the Bible: Genesis 22:1–19 — the testing of Abraham.

📖 Bible Passage – Genesis 22:1–19 (NABRE):
Some time afterward, God put Abraham to the test and said to him: Abraham! “Here I am!” he replied.
Then God said: Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. There you shall offer him up as a burnt offering on one of the heights that I will point out to you.
So early the next morning Abraham saddled his donkey, took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac, and after cutting the wood for the burnt offering, set out for the place of which God had told him...

🕊️ Reflection: Trust Beyond Understanding
Genesis 22 is one of the most difficult and powerful stories in all of Scripture. God commands Abraham to take Isaac—his beloved, long-awaited son—and sacrifice him. It’s jarring, almost unthinkable. But Abraham obeys without hesitation. Why? Because he trusts the voice of God even when the command seems impossible to bear.

Abraham’s journey to Mount Moriah is not just physical—it’s spiritual. Each step is a step deeper into trust. He doesn't argue, doesn't delay. He simply says, “Here I am,” and goes.

In verse 8, when Isaac asks where the lamb is for the sacrifice, Abraham answers, “God himself will provide the lamb.” These words are both prophetic and deeply faithful. And indeed, at the moment of greatest tension, God intervenes. Isaac is spared, and a ram is provided as a substitute.

This moment is not just about Abraham and Isaac. It foreshadows another Father and another Son. God the Father would one day offer His only Son, Jesus, on the cross—not sparing Him as He spared Isaac. Jesus became the Lamb that God provided—for the sins of the world.

Where Abraham was asked to give his son, God actually did. Where Isaac was laid on the altar and saved, Jesus was nailed to the cross and sacrificed. The story of Genesis 22 prepares our hearts to understand the depth of God’s love, and the cost of our redemption.

🙏 Life Application:
What does this mean for us?
It reminds us that trusting God sometimes means walking forward even when we don’t have all the answers. It means surrendering what we hold dearest and believing that God will provide—not always in the way we expect, but always in the way that’s best.

Abraham’s test became his testimony. Our moments of testing can become the ground where faith grows, and where we more fully understand the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf.
