In 2009, Monica Wyman founded RSVP Floral Designs, a flower shop designing arrangements for weddings and other events in Temecula, California, outside of San Diego county.

The mother of three loved the flexibility that working as an independent contractor afforded her and the other women she hired to help with seasonal weddings. In 2016, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and faced losing her small business. Still, the flexibility enabled her to still care for her family and herself during the three-year battle.

But in a cruel twist of fate, after beating cancer, Wyman now faces the prospect of losing her business to something else: California Assembly Bill 5 (AB5).
