Envy– the green-eyed monster
Gen.37

Objective: to continue on identifying sins that must be stopped and dropped.

Envy = n.A feeling of grudging admiration and desire to have something that is possessed by another

Read vv. 3-11

1. The Motivation to Envy – vv.3-4
a. Favoritism
i. An inclination to favour some person or group
ii. Unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice
2. The Missing Considerateness to Envy–vv. 5-11
a. On Joseph’s part– didn’t he notice?
b. On Jacob’s part– he had the same experience, he should have learned
3. The Mordantoutworking of Envy
a. Mordant
i. Harshly ironic or sinister
ii. Of a substance, especially a strong acid; capable of destroying or eating away by chemical action
b. Enough that they plotted against their own brother?!
c. Enough that they fooled their father to believing a lie!
d. Enough that the person that should have stood up for what is right was held up!

Message/conclusion:
If you are envious of others, the one you will hurt the most by your actions will be yourself.
