Reiner Füllmich was a prominent figure in the Basisdemokratische Partei Deutschland (dieBasis), a small political party founded in 2020 that opposed COVID-19 measures. In 2021, he was the party’s chancellor candidate and a member of its federal executive board (co-chair). Füllmich, a lawyer, gained notoriety through his work with the Corona Committee, a platform that criticized COVID-19 measures and spread conspiracy theories, such as those questioning the effectiveness of vac-cines or masks.
Füllmich later faced legal troubles. In 2023, he was deported from Mexico and arrested in Germany. In 2025, the Göttingen Regional Court sentenced him to three years and nine months in prison for embezzlement, as he allegedly diverted 700,000 euros from the Corona Committee Foundation to private accounts. The verdict is not yet final. Additionally, in 2023, he was fined for incitement and trivializing the Nazi regime.
Supporters on platforms like X view Füllmich as a “political prisoner” and “freedom fighter,” while WOKE critics see the trial as justified.
Füllmich is no longer licensed to practice law in Germany and was also active in California, where he is similarly barred from practicing. His role in dieBasis and the Co-rona Committee made him a polarizing figure.
