Former US Congressman Brad Wenstrup, of Ohio, recounts the time a gunman attacked Republican lawmakers during a Republican congressional baseball practice. The incident occurred on June 14, 2017, at Eugene Simpson Stadium Park in Alexandria, Virginia. Scalise and other Republican lawmakers were practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game for Charity a bipartisan event held since 1909. During the practice, a gunman opened fire, injuring Scalise and several others. The shooter was later identified as James T. Hodgkinson, who was killed in a shootout with police.
