Deadlift Max Day

I haven't done deadlifts in a LONG time, and this was very evident with my breakdown in form on my heaviest set. 405 went up very smoothly. I was able to maintain a hook-grip with zero pain. I should have done a second or 3rd single with 405 to really lock in my form before moving up in weight. But, I was impatient in going after it. I tried 495 at first with a hook-grip, but it wasn't going to hold. So, I rushed into pulling it with an over under grip. In rushing, I didn't properly set my lats and allowed my hips to rise too quickly. This forced me to muscle the weight up with my lower back. A feat I was able to achieve, but it was ugly and unnecessary. Now, my lower back is stiff and sore. I should have set ego aside. You'd think after 23 years of lifting I'd know better. LOL! After deadlifts, I got in some hang power cleans. I managed to hit 3 singles with 175, which was supposed to be today's working weight, but I thought I needed to work up to 190. That's what I get for relying on mental math instead of breaking out the calculator. Now that I've established a starting place for deads, I'm going to reverse the order of these exercises and start with power cleans. I think this will be better for my lower back and focusing on form and function over ego. This afternoon I'll be focusing on some flow work to get some blood pumping into my lower back and enhance recovery.
