There is POWER in "I AM"
In Exodus 3, we read about Moses and the burning bush where God instructs him to return his people in Egypt to free them from bondage. In verses 13-14, we read,
[13] Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” [14] God said to Moses, “I AM who I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”
Moses feared that the Israelites would not believe that God sent him to rescue them. So God gave Moses the power of His name to approach the Israelites.
In John 8:58, Jesus told the Pharisees, “Very truly I tell you, before Abraham was born, I am!” Here, Jesus reveals that it was He who Moses spoke with at the burning bush.
Later, in John 18, Jesus reveals the great power of "I AM". In verse 3, the soldiers aproached Jesus and he asked them who they wanted. They replied, "Jesus of Nazareth". And Jesus said, "I am he." At this, the soldiers drew back and fell to the ground.
God has given us this same power in our lives in all circumstances. We just need to use "I am" properly. When we say "I am", what are we giving power to? Are we giving power to our circumstance? Or are we giving power to Jesus?
When we say "I am incapable", we are giving power to our circumstance. But if we say ""I am capable" because in Jesus, I truly am capable as Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
What if we flip ALL of our negative "I am" statements to reflect our true identity and power in Christ?
With this approach, we can't say anything negative about ourselves or our situation. With Jesus, we are whole, we are hopeful, we are overcomers, we are loved, we are strong, we are at peace, we are joyful, we are victorious.
Instead of saying "I am alone", say "I am a child of God"
Instead of saying "I am poor", say "I am richly blessed"
Instead of saying "I am hopeless", say "I am hopeful"
Instead of saying "I am tired", say "I am strengthened"
Instead of saying "I am hurting", say "I am healed"
God has given us the power of His name to flip every perspective, every attitude, every situation on its head. As we read in Matthew 19:26, " With God, all things are possible." And we read in 1 John 4:4,
"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."
Because Christ is in us, it is impossible to identify ourselves without Him. Because Christ is in us, His power, strength and victory goes before us.
So let us put His name BEFORE our name, BEFORE our circumstances, BEFORE our challenges, BEFORE our attitudes... and therefore, CHANGE our perspective and CHANGE our situation by the very POWER of His Holy Name, "I AM”.
