Matthew's Gospel Chapter 16, one paragraph, even a few sentences, a big controversy that has divided Christians for centuries. Those centuries of division didn't really start until the 1500's; before that most of the people in Christ's Church were united. But, if you are, "solo scriptura," you may not realize it. One has to read the writings of the early historians of the church; the "Church Fathers." Just like our nation has, Founding Fathers, so does the Church. Jesus set up a ministry with twelve men. He left them to form and develop His Church based on what He taught them. And much to our chagrin, this didn't happen overnight; it took centuries. After all, for the first few hundred years those early Christians were busy hiding from the Romans, trying to just stay alive rather than die for their beliefs. We flawed human beings haven't changed much since the time of our creation. We still like things easy, and in many cases, look to a human to lead us rather than God. All denominations are led by humans no matter what that pastor tells you. Today, we take a look at the Gospel passage that divides many of us. Thank you for watching, and PLEASE tell others about us.
