The History of the Douglas DC-8

Hello all! :D

This week, we take a look at the Douglas DC-8, the first jet airliner model from the famous Douglas Company, and one that had all the makings of being a major commercial success, had not a disjointed development mired by quarrelling ideas and the misguided use of untested design facets not caused this machine to be released too late to succeed against the rival Boeing 707 during the late 1950s.

However, even with the DC-8's delayed launch and commercial woes, the resultant model was a superbly versatile design that saw greater use in cargo roles, while a mid-life upgrade to many units, including new engines and refreshed airframes, gave this airliner a second wind on the market that would see DC-8s still in use well into the 2010s.
