Oak Hill Church of Christ Preaching Minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the importance of listening to God and acting on His Word.

Nearly everyone knows the difference between their parent calling them by a nickname compared to their full name. There's a difference in tone when something is being said in anger compared to something being said in compassion, even if the words are the same. Anyone who's ever had a misunderstanding of intent through text knows words on the screen and words said to a person's face are different.

Those who follow Jesus know he said during his ministry that all those who are his can hear the sound of his voice. They come when he calls. God instructs us that he, too, is listening and attentive to our needs.

Sometimes, there's trouble in communication. Maybe the voice doesn't come through clear, or what we thought we heard wasn't what was being said. We may take a look around one day and realize we've been going down the wrong path for quite a while. We were sure we were heading in the right direction, yet, where we've ended up isn't where we want to be.

If you find yourself in that circumstance, if you've lifted your eyes to see a strange land with barren horizons, you're not alone. Remember, the Hebrews walked for 40 years in the wilderness with only God to guide them. Still, when they were obedient to Him and followed Him, they were delivered.

God, through Christ, offers the same to you. Hear His voice, listen to His will for you, search His Word and follow His son, and you'll find the right path again. Christ never waited in palaces or high roads for those who always knew the way, he walked the low roads between small towns and out-of-the-way places. God has always known that's where He'll find you. Lift up your eyes and notice Him.

Then, follow.
