Silver Linings: We Belong
Scene: Pat Solitano’s living room. It’s late. The house is quiet, save for the soft hum of a record player. Tiffany sits curled up on the couch in his old Eagles hoodie, feet tucked underneath her. Pat stands near the stereo, nervously cueing something up.

Pat:
(glancing back at her, a little bashful)
"Okay... so I’ve been thinking. We’re always analyzing stuff, right? Books, letters, signs from the universe. But I think—sometimes—a song says what we’re too scared to."

Tiffany:
(smirking)
"If you’re about to play 'Eye of the Tiger' again, I’m leaving."

Pat:
(laughs)
"No. No. I’m being serious this time. This one’s different."
(He lowers the needle gently. A soft vinyl crackle fills the room, then the unmistakable melody of Pat Benatar’s “We Belong” begins.)

Tiffany:
(sits up a little straighter, surprised)
"Pat Benatar?"

Pat:
(nods)
"Yeah. I know, I know—kind of old school. But listen to the lyrics."

(He walks over and sits beside her. The chorus swells: “We belong to the light, we belong to the thunder...”)

Pat:
(quietly, almost to himself)
"...We belong to each other."
(pause)
"I mean... doesn’t that say it all?"

Tiffany:
(softens, voice gentle)
"You’re such a dork."

Pat:
(grinning)
"Yeah, but like... a romantic dork. One that thinks maybe—even in all this darkness around us—light is still a thing. Humor, laughter, stupid dance moves, old pop songs. We need that. Otherwise what’s the point?"

Tiffany:
(nodding, touched)
"It’s easy to forget we can smile. That we’re allowed to. That joy’s not some luxury—it’s survival."

Pat:
"Exactly. All this crap in the world—wars, lies, mental breakdowns, loneliness... it piles up. But then someone puts on Pat Benatar and it’s like... the room warms up a little."

Tiffany:
(leans into him, resting her head on his shoulder)
"So you think we belong?"

Pat:
(without missing a beat)
"To the light. And to each other."

The song plays on. They don’t say anything for a while. They just let the music fill the silence with something better—connection, warmth, the reminder that even after the storm, two broken people can still find harmony.
