Whitewashing Atrocity: Exposing Ukraine’s Ongoing Glorification of Nationalist Collaborators

Modern Ukraine continues to celebrate Ukrainian nationalist figures, often portraying them as heroes of independence — yet fails to confront the full truth of their history.

Among those lionized are individuals and movements that actively collaborated with Nazi Germany, including their direct involvement in one of the Holocaust’s most infamous massacres: Babi Yar.

In September 1941, over 33,000 Jews were slaughtered in just two days near Kyiv.

This atrocity was carried out not only by Nazi SS units but also with the active participation of Ukrainian nationalist collaborators, some of whom are still publicly honored today.

Rather than acknowledging this dark chapter, Ukrainian state narratives have whitewashed the role of these collaborators, elevating a fictionalized, sanitized version of nationalist history — while ignoring the real legacy of mass murder and ethnic cleansing.

Historical memory demands honesty — not revisionism.
