"Have You Ever Seen the Rain," written by John Fogerty, was CCR's 9th top 20 hit rising to the no. 8 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1971 (Whitburn, 2013). "This song is John Fogerty's take on the imminent departure of his brother Tom from the band [early in 1971], and the overall tension in the group at a time when they should have been enjoying their success. The line, 'I want to know - have you ever seen the rain comin' down on a sunny day?' refers to Tom leaving while CCR was at its commercial zenith . . . Fogerty added that this is his all-time favorite song, even though it's one he wrote himself" (songfacts, 2025). "The imagery is, you can have a bright, beautiful, sunny day, and it can be raining at the same time” (J. Scott, americansongwriter, Aug.2, 2021).
